iSmile Dental’s children’s dentistry team in Langley provides gentle, friendly dental care for kids of all ages. Early dental care builds healthy habits and prevents problems later — and a good first experience makes a lifetime of difference in how kids feel about the dentist.
The Canadian Dental Association recommends a first dental visit by age 1 or within 6 months of the first tooth erupting. Early visits are short, mostly about getting comfortable with the environment, checking for early issues, and giving parents tips on at-home care.
Our team is patient, gentle, and uses age-appropriate language (“counting their teeth,” “tickling them clean”). We let kids hold the mirror, ask questions, and we never rush. For kids with significant anxiety, we offer sedation options — though most children do fine without it once they’re comfortable with the environment.
Anxiety is common — and entirely manageable with the right approach. We use the “tell-show-do” method: explain what’s happening in kid-friendly language, show them the tools, then begin. Parents are welcome in the operatory. Bring a favourite toy, blanket, or playlist if it helps.
Most insurance plans cover children’s preventive care at 80–100%. We’re a CDCP-approved dentist — children under 18 in eligible families can access free or low-cost care.
Yes — baby teeth hold space for adult teeth, help with chewing, speech, and self-confidence, and lay the foundation for healthy oral habits. Decay in baby teeth often signals problems with permanent teeth too.
That’s okay. We focus on building trust first. Many “first visits” for hesitant kids are just a tour, a chair ride, and a sticker. We meet kids where they are.
Yes. Modern digital X-rays use very low radiation, and we shield with lead aprons. We only take X-rays when needed, not on a fixed schedule.
Both are normal up to about age 3. Continued sucking past then can affect bite alignment. We’ll give gentle guidance if it becomes a concern.
Most start braces or Invisalign between 11–13. But an early evaluation around age 7 catches issues like crowding or bite problems that are easier to fix early.
